I wish you bluebirds in the spring
To give your heart a song to sing,
And then a kiss, but more than this, I wish you love.
And in July a lemonade to cool you in some leafy glade,
I wish you health, but more than wealth, I wish you love.

If Love would have chosen a day herself to mark her in the calendar, St Valentine’s Day – 14th of February is the perfect choice. Because among many others Saint Valentine’s story seems to be the most romantic and significant in the sense of love.
One story of the origins of Valentines Day comes from the time of the Roman Empire, under the rule of Emperor Claudius the Second. Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular military campaigns. Claudius the Cruel, as he was known at the time, was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that Roman men did not want to leave their loved ones or families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome.
During this time a Christian priest named Valentine came to defend love in the empire. Valentine began to secretly marry couples despite the emperor’s orders. When Emperor Claudius was informed about these ceremonies, Valentine was sent to prison where he remained until his death on February 14 in the year 270.
But let’s leave all that to history. Now more than 60 percent of Ukrainians happily celebrate this holiday. Though it is a young and new holiday, it has become very popular, maybe because during Soviet Union time there was no special day to mark the feast of love except for wedding anniversaries.
You are probably interested how this St. Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the country your lady lives. There are no special traditions created yet. Like many other people in the world – Ukrainians like to have parties, concerts, candle light dinners with their partners. Among presents – flowers, chocolates, perfumes, flowers, jewelry and cards are on the top of the list.
The best thing about St. Valentine is that you can create this romantic fairy tale for both of you! And as always we at Unona International dating agency will be glad to help you in any way we can.
Happy Dating!
