Antiscam
For a long time we have kept aside of any scamming reports on Unona site. People have different outlooks on life and we are not going to judge anybody or to advertise our anti-scam fight. On the other hand we have never let our agency be used for scamming people.
We have been very lucky during the time of our work to get acquainted with very kind-hearted, decent and open gentlemen. We are sure that in future there will be even more pleasant acquaintances, meetings and happy couples engaged and married. This article is written for these people whose devoted, charming and loving Ukrainien women are waiting for them.
What are the signs of scammers?
1. The lady is willing to correspond with you, while your age difference is 20+.
The reason why you want to have a relationship with you is quite understandable, but why does she want to be with you? Each relationship should have some balance and harmony inside so please, think well of what is your harmony based on. I don't mean that there can't be exceptions and God bless them, but such relationships are really exceptional. And for me when I see that a lady writes in her profile that she would be interested in meeting a man whose age is from 18 till 100, this is a sign of alert.
2. The lady doesn't work or she writes about her work very vaguely. Don't hesitate to ask her how she affords living. Believe me, there are many jobs now in Ukraine for decent and industrious people. And if a grown-up lady doesn't work so there should be somebody who is supporting her, right? Would you like to join the line of supporters?
3. The lady disappears for a week or two, doesn't reply to your letters and calls, then she appears again and tells that her grandmother (aunt etc. ) lives in the other city, she got ill and she had to go to visit her. As for our agency, all our offices work 7 days a week about 9-10 hours per day, so contacting us in case of emergency is not a problem. Many ladies have cell phones, so we contact them on regular basis. The only reason of lady's disappearance is that she doesn't want to appear.
4. Obviously beware of requests for money such as a friend's (aunt's, grandmother's etc. ) illness, remodeling at home, urge to study English lessons with a private teacher to understand each word of yours, a new job which requires some investment and so endlessly on.
Dear gentlemen, please, remember one thing : it is just as inappropriate in our country as it is in yours too to ask money from a man you have never seen before.
It is also inappropriate to complain about living conditions, failures etc. Those who respect themselves and are smart, study and get good jobs. Those who are silly and greedy ask for money. Believe me, in case of emergency a good person will have enough good friends to help in need.
Whatever you do, please use your common sense. Ukrainian women value care, gifts, and flowers as signs of attention but don't ever humiliate them with sending money! When you come and meet each other, and meet her family and see that you are doing great together and decide to get engaged- it's up to you how to behave then. But please, don't act hastily.
Despite our best intentions and yours, it is rare but still possible that a member tries to scam you. This can be quite frustrating, but REMAIN CALM, YOU CAN FIGHT BACK.
Here is what you could do:
1. If you get a suspiscious message from other member at Unona website, file an "Report Abuse" - click a link which is located in the Actions section of the profile (this feature is available only for Active Members). Our customer support will review your information and will take action - delete suspiscious letter or delete the scamer's profile from the site for good. We refund all the money you spent on communication with this lady on our website.
2. If you found a profile of a lady on our site, who is known as a scammer to you, please file an "Report Abuse" too. Prepare the detailed proof of scamming (detailed information of the scammer, copies of the lady's letters where she asks for money, you money transfer receipts and checks if possible)
3. Send the proof alongside with your claim to http://www.russian-scam.org/report.htm and other anti-scam organizations.
4. Send your complaint along with your claim to the Ukrainian Embassy in your country, insisting on investigation. Our legislative system is still weak in this matter and we don't have such a crime as scamming. But there is punishment for fraud and theft.
5. You could also insist on including the lady into the "black list" of scammers who will never get fiancee visa into your country.
If you decide to fight a scammer, this is not going to be a pleasant activity, but you would help yourself and many other decent men who could suffer from her dishonest intentions.
Report a Scam
Dear Gentlemen, if you feel you are being scammed please inform us immediately. With your permission and with names removed, we would like to publish extracts of these women's letters to provide concrete examples to our clients of what to watch out for. Your help is very important for those who are starting to look for a beautiful Russian bride, as well as for those who are in a relationship now.
Unfortunately bad news travels ten times faster than good news, and scammers are fairly rare particularly because of our screening process and the hand-translation of our letters. But still we need to be aware of them, to be able to identify and to avoid them.
We would sincerely appreciate your help. Please, send your comments along with the extracts of letters to our customer suppor
